Following our announcements last week regarding extensions of certain 2019 tax filing and payments, Georgia’s Governor Kemp announced yesterday that Georgia is following the federal extension provisions covered in IRS Notice 2020-18 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/n-20-18.pdf, providing that all 2019 Georgia income tax returns and payments otherwise due by April 15, 2020 will now automatically be due July 15, 2020 instead.

This link provides an updated state-by-state chart of extension announcements through yesterday: https://www.aicpa.org/content/dam/aicpa/advocacy/tax/downloadabledocuments/coronavirus-state-filing-relief.pdf.

Regarding 2020 estimated tax payments, both the federal and Georgia extensions cover 1st quarter 2020 extension payments that would otherwise be due by April 15, 2020. Those will now be due by July 15, 2020 also.

These extensions so far only cover income taxes. Other federal and Georgia taxes should be presumed to remain subject to normal due dates, absent specific forthcoming announcements otherwise from government authorities.
